The Arts and Entertainment District features Artwork in an Uncommon Space

In a joint venture between the Vista Neighborhood Association and the Congaree Vista Guild, the group that represents the merchants in the hospitality district, 20 utility boxes have been wrapped in the Vista with images of artworks.

A Look at Columbia’s Public Art of the Past

Russell Maxey’s Photographs of Public Art

Russell Maxey (1906-1994) was an educator, engineer, author and photographer. His collection of several thousand photographic negatives is part of the Local History collections at Richland Library. In going through this collection we’ve discovered that Maxey had a keen eye for the art and beauty in his structural surroundings. Maxey was often hired by architects and builders to photograph their newly completed buildings.

Call for Artists

The City of Columbia has authorized One Columbia to manage the development of several public art projects. The purpose of the public art initiative is to commission a number of works of public art on pre-selected sites along Columbia’s Main Street.
